1970年代後半の Bunny Lee 制作 King Tubby mix の dub の歌入り version の
多くは、ファルセットの歌声も独特な Johnny Clarke や Cornell Cambell が
歌っていた。この Bunny Lee 制作音源を中心に集めたアンソロジーは、
King Tubby の dub の元ネタ集ともいえる内容だ。

1973年の early reggae 期から1983年の dancehall 期までの10年間の音源を
収録しているが、ほとんどが Bunny Lee 制作ということもあるのか、統一感ある
内容になっている。

Johnny Clarke に比べ再発CD化の遅れている Cornell Campbell だが、それでも
以前に _I Shall Not Remove 1975-80_ (Blood And Fire, BAFCD030, 2000, CD)
という好アンソロジーがリリースされている。しかし、このアンソロジーには
彼の soulful な名曲 "Please Be True" が収録されていなかった。

_Natty Dread: Anthology_ は、"Please Be True" を収録している。
_I Shall Not Remove 1975-80_ に収録されていた "The Conquering Lion" や
"Dance In A Greenwich Farm"、"I Shall Not Remove" などの良い曲も収録している。
Marvin Gaye, "Wherever I Lay My Hat" や Gene Chandler, "Duke Of Earl" の
ような R&B のカバーの楽しめるし、Bob Marley, "Natty Dread" も歌っている。
Cornell Campbell 入門としてお薦めだ。

そして、もちろん、同じ曲でも dub や DJ version を繋げた discomix 仕様で
楽しめる _I Shall Not Remove 1975-80_ を _Natty Dread: Anthology_ に続けて
聴いて欲しい。
