80年にUKで録音されたdub poetryの作品。R.A.P.P.とはRadical Alliance of
Poets & Playersの略。ちなみに、A3の"Court Room"はdub poetryではなく、
play(芝居)の録音である。

制作のDennis Bovellでお馴染みのThe Dub Bandの面々が中心になって、背景の
音を作っている。The Dub Bandを背景にするUKのdub poetといえば、Linton
Kwesi Johnsonがいるわけで、つい比較してしまう。A面はそうでもないのだが、
B面はArchie Poolの声質も似ており、まるでLinton Kwesi Johnsonの録音のよう。
翻ってA面は最後の"Court Room"はもろ芝居なのだが、全体としても芝居がかって
聞こえ、クールなLinton Kwesi Johnsonとは一線を劃すと思う。

実際はA面から聴き初めているわけで、最初に聴いたときは、なんか芝居臭いな
と思ったら、ほんとに芝居になってしまって、なんだこりゃ、という感じだった。
B面になって、ほっとしたというか。ちょっと胡散臭い作品だ。

Linton Kwesi Johnson "Bass Culture" (Island, ILSP9605) '80がなかったら、
reggaeにこれだけはまることはなかっただろう、という僕にとっては、B面の
感触は堪らない。いいね〜。けど、あまりに針を落すまでの期待が大きかった
せいか、若干の拍子外れもあったのも事実だ。

しかし、The Pop GroupのレーベルであるYからのリリースだというのに、こんな
バンド/音盤の存在すら知らなかった。うーん、奥が深い。
