find(1)
— mattn (@mattn_jp) March 12, 2021
-not -name '*.jpg' -or -name -name '*.png'
SYNOPSIS
find [-H|-L] path… [operand_expression…]

SYNOPSIS
[XSI] ps [-aA] [Option Start][-defl] [-g grouplist][Option End] [-G grouplist]
[Option Start][ -n namelist][Option End] [-o format]… [-p proclist] [-t termlist]
[Option Start][ -u userlist][Option End] [-U userlist]
As far as we know, all tar programs, GNU and non-GNU, support old options: that is, if the first argument does not start with ‘-’, it is assumed to specify option letters. GNU tar supports old options not only for historical reasons, but also because many people are used to them. If the first argument does not start with a dash, you are announcing the old option style instead of the short option style; old options are decoded differently.
This old way of writing tar options can surprise even experienced users. For example, the two commands:
tar cfz archive.tar.gz file
tar -cfz archive.tar.gz fileare quite different. The first example uses ‘archive.tar.gz’ as the value for option ‘f’ and recognizes the option ‘z’. The second example, however, uses ‘z’ as the value for option ‘f’ — probably not what was intended.

services
For some, their stake in such progress may last just a few years, and we will forever be grateful for their service, and for others it may last decades.

push up a big tent
So again, what does this have to do with Rails? Well, Rails has been designed with a similar principle to Principle of Least Surprise (To Matz). The Principle of The Bigger Smile (of DHH), which is just what it says on the tin: APIs designed with great attention paid to whatever would make me smile more and broader. When I write it out like this, that sounds almost comically narcissistic, and even I find hard to argue against that first impression.
