錆び猫 - Wikipedia

錆び猫にメスの多い理由は、赤と黒の毛色を発現する遺伝子がメスを決めるX染色体だけにあって、 オスを決めるY染色体は毛色の遺伝を決める特質を持っていないためである。 赤と黒の2色の毛色を持つ錆び猫と三毛猫には、メスであることを決定するX染色体が二つ揃うことになる。 よって、錆び猫と三毛猫は基本的にメスのみとなる。

「ラバーダック・デバッグ」という言葉は、1999年に出版された大学向けの教科書 「The Pragmatic Programmer: From Journeyman to Master」が初出だといわれています。

あれって「大学向けの教科書」だったっけ? と思ったので調べてみると

もっと古くからあったと思うのだけど、 見つかったところではThe Practice of Programming(日本語訳 プログラミング作法)に 載っているらしい。

In The Practice of Programming, Pike and Kernighan tell the story of a university computer center that employed a valuable tool; one that helped many, many students with their coding challenges– a teddy bear. When students approached the help desk with a bug, they weren’t allowed to ask a real person for help. Instead, they had to explain their code, line by line, to the teddy bear in front of them.

Explain your code to someone else. Another effective technique is to explain your code to somcone else. This will often cause you to explain the bug to yourself. Sometimes it takes no more than a few sentences, followed by an embarrassed “Never mind, I see what’s wrong. Sorry to bother you.” This works remarkably well; you can even use non- programmers as listeners. One university computer center kept a teddy bear near the help desk. Students with mysterious bugs were required to explain them to the bear before they could speak to a human counselor
