The Lion and the Unicorn The Lion and the Unicorn were fighting for the crown: The Lion and the Unicorn all round the town. Some gave them white bread, some gave them brown: Some gave them plum-cake and drummed them out of town. 『鏡の国のアリス』第7章「ライオンとユニコーン」 唄の通り、ライオンとユニコーンが王冠をめぐって闘います。 幻獣ユニコーンはアリスを見て、コドモとはおとぎ話の中の怪物だと思っていたと言います。相手の世界から見たらこっちの世界の方がよっぽど奇妙でしょうね。アリスとはお互いに相手の存在を信じ合いなかなかよい関係に落ち着きますが、白の王はライオンとユニコーンに挟まれ、ぶるぶる震えて大事な王冠を落としてしまいそう。章の最後には町中に太鼓の音が響き渡り…。 ライオンはイングランドの象徴、ユニコーンはスコットランドの象徴。17世紀に両国が統一され、以来王家の紋章はライオンとユニコ ーンが中央楯を支えている図柄となっています。 The Lion and the Unicorn 　 ライオンとユニコーン The Lion and the Unicorn Were fighting for the crown; The Lion and the Unicorn All round about the town.
